Lacombe’s Brady McKinlay climbed the ranks at the 118th Canadian Men’s Amateur Golf Championship.
During the four-day Golf Canada event that began on Monday at the Pulpit Club in Caledon, Ont., McKinlay finished tied for fifth place after shooting even par 284.
The 22-year-old began the opening round with an incredible six under par 66 and completed the final three days shooting 75, 70, and 73. His final placement was just seven strokes behind champion Ashton McCullough from Bath, Ont.
With the top five finish, McKinlay takes home not only the experience of competing against some of the best amateur players in the world but also a purse of over $716.
Sylvan Lake’s Carter and Logan Graf, Innisfail’s Joe Kelly, as well as Red Deer’s Cole Bergheim, Jace Ouellette, and Alex Gerrard all missed the cut after the second round.
