The Red Deer Midget AA Chiefs are two wins away from a league title.
After winning the South Central Alberta Hockey League North Division banner Sunday, they will play the Medicine Hat Hounds for the league championship in a best-of-three series.
Red Deer finished the regular season 17-11-5 and entered the South Central Alberta Hockey League playoff tournament as the second seed. In the tournament, they went 3-1 and then beat the Olds Grizzlys 7-3 in the semis. In the Sunday final, after six games in four days, the Chiefs knocked off the top-ranked West Central Tigers 4-1, scoring all four goals on the power play.
Carter Bettenson and Colby Philips led the tournament scoring with nine points each. Zaiden Hansen was the top goalie with a 0.940 save percentage.
The best-of-three final starts Thursday in Medicine Hat, with a return to Red Deer on March 16 at 4:45 p.m. at the Collicutt.
