Notre Dame Cougars win high school football zone title

Cougars finished the season undefeated

For the first time since 2016, the Notre Dame Cougars are Central Alberta High School Football champions. 

The Cougars knocked off the Hunting Hills Lighting 34-24 on Saturday at Great Chief Park. The win capped off a perfect 8-0 season for the Cougars, their first undefeated campaign since 2009. 

Notre Dame will now travel to Edmonton to take on the No. 1 ranked Harry Ainlay Titans in the Alberta Schools' Athletic Association 5A provincial championship quarter-final. The Titans are 11-0 on the year, after beating the Spruce Grove Panthers 41-7 last week. 

The season also continues for the Lightning, as they will take on Cold Lake. Hunting Hills is ranked fifth in 4A play, with a 6-2 record on the year. 

The H.J. Cody Lakers beat Lindsay Thurber 47-14 to earn bronze in the .
