The Olds Amateur Football Association will have a full slate of games on Saturday as part of Football Day in Olds.

In conjunction with the Olds High School Football Spartans, the full day of football is set for Saturday at the Normie Kwong Football Field on the Olds College Campus.

Action starts at 10 a.m. with the OAFA Pewee Huskies playing the Rocky Mountain House Jr. Rebels, followed by a presentation to Mayor Judy Dahl at 11:30.In June, the Town of Olds Council approved a Summer Games Legacy Fund Grant of $4,500 to OAFA. The grant was a one-time distribution to be used for the betterment of sport opportunity within the Town of Olds.

“’Football Day in Olds’ is an excellent opportunity to officially thank the Mayor and Council for their generous donation to the Association,” said Doug Rieberger, OAFA President.

The Olds Bantam Bulldogs will kick off at noon against the Hanna Hawks, with the final game of the day featuring the Olds High School Spartans at 2:30 p.m.

In a release, Dahl said the town was thrilled to help out the minor football program.

“The Town is proud to support youth activity. This kind of financial support helps minor sports like football provide opportunities for youth to develop and participate in sport while shaping a healthy, active lifestyle,” she said.

Rieberger noted that the OAFA provides all participants with the equipment necessary to play football.

“Our equipment initiative is to ensure that we have equipment for all that love and want to play football in our community, enabling us to keep our registration fees low and affordable while assuring all participants have proper and equitable gear,” he said.
