The Edmonton Oilers have named Wayne Fleming an assistant coach. Fleming was head coach of Avangard Omsk in the Continental Hockey League last season after serving three seasons as an assistant with Calgary. “Wayne brings an array of experience from both the NHL and international level,” Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini said in a statement Tuesday.

The Winnipeg native will serve with Kelly Buchberger as an assistant to head coach Pat Quinn and associate coach Tom Renney. Fleming has also worked in the NHL with Philadelphia, Phoenix and the New York Islanders.

He was assistant coach and GM on Canada’s Olympic squad that won silver at the 1992 Winter Games.
