Red Deer’s Rebecca Smith set for first Olympic race Saturday

Red Deer’s Rebecca Smith is finally set for her Olympic moment.

With the Tokyo Olympics set to open Friday, Smith, 21, will represent Canada in her first event of the Games Saturday morning.

Smith had originally only qualified to participate in the 4x200 metre freestyle relay next Wednesday but found out this week that she will also race in the 4x100m relay Saturday.

That race will take place around 5:48 a.m. MST, with her relay on July 28 scheduled for 5:31 a.m. Olympic swimming coverage will be available on CBC.

Red Deer’s Tammy Cunnington will compete in the pool in the Paralympics, which start on Aug. 24.
