The 2020 NHL Draft is still a few months away and if it is to go ahead as planned, members of the Red Deer Rebels might get to hear their names called.

Two Rebels moved a step closer to that dream, landing on the NHL Central Scouting Final rankings, released Wednesday by the NHL.

Defenceman Christoffer Sedoff was ranked 53rd among North American skaters, after posting five goals and 19 assists in 61 games this season during his first year in North America. The Helsinki, Finland product was ranked 50th at the midterm rankings.

Centre Ben King, who the Rebels acquired in November from the Swift Current Broncos also made the final rankings, landing at 121 out the 217 skaters ranked. The six-foot-two, 194-pound forward had a breakout year with Red Deer, posting 16 goals and 38 points in 46 games. In 62 games total between the Broncos and Rebels, the Vernon, B.C. product had 20 goals and 46 points.

Last year was the first season in the 27-year history of the Rebels, that no player from the club was selected in the NHL Draft. In 2018, Rebels defenceman Alex Alexeyev (first round, 31st overall) and Dawson Barteaux (sixth round, 168th overall) were picked.

Alex Lafreniere of the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is the top-ranked North American skater this year, while Prince Albert Raiders defenceman Kaiden Guhle was top of the list for the WHL at number eight.
