From the court to the ice, two local products had standout performances for RDC Athletics on the weekend.

First-year Queens hockey forward Avery Lajeunnesse and Kings basketball guard Cody White, both from Red Deer, were named RDC Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Lajeunnesse had a stellar weekend as the Queens picked up three of four points against the rival NAIT Ooks. Saturday in a 5-4 shootout loss, the rookie had a night to remember with her first career Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference hat trick. She had two goals in the first period and notched the hat trick tally with 31 seconds left in the second period. Her six goals on the season lead the Queens and are second in ACAC rookie scoring. Her 12 points on the season are seventh in the ACAC.

The three-point weekend pushed the Queens one point ahead of the Ooks for second in the ACAC Women’s hockey standings.

In the Kings’ only game of the weekend, White helped the team to an 88-75 win over the Olds College Broncos. The third-year guard had an efficient night, scoring 20 points on six-of-11 shooting from the field. He also cashed in five three-pointers and three free throws in the win, along with two offensive rebounds. The Kings sit 6-5 on the season and are tied for third in the ACAC South.
