Persson has 3-point night in Rebels victory over Royals

Alex Petrovic scored once and added three assists and John Persson had a three-point outing as the Red Deer Rebels downed the Victoria Royals 7-4 Saturday to extend their WHL winning streak to six games.

VICTORIA – Alex Petrovic scored once and added three assists and John Persson had a three-point outing as the Red Deer Rebels downed the Victoria Royals 7-4 Saturday to extend their WHL winning streak to six games.

The Rebels led 2-0 after one period on goals from Petrovic and Turner Elson, with his team-leading 11th of the season. Persson and Chad Robinson notched second-period markers for Red Deer and Justin Weller, Daulton Siwak and Mathew Dumba connected in the final 20 minutes.

Replying for the Royals, who pulled to within 4-3 after 40 minutes, were Brandon Magee with two goals, Steven Hodges and Jamie Crooks.

Patrik Barstosak made 16 saves for the Rebels while Keith Hamilton stopped 34 shots for the Royals.

The two clubs meet again today.
