Peterman settles for silver at Games

HALIFAX, N.S. — Blankety, blank, blank.

The Team Alberta girls rink, skipped by Red Deer’s Jocelyn Peterman will have to settle for silver at the Canada Games after falling 3-1 to British Columbia in a blank filled final Friday.

Alberta — which also featured third Brittany Tran of Red Deer, Rebecca Konschuh of Sundre and Kristine Anderson of Cluny — and B.C. blanked the first two ends as B.C. finally scored one in the third. Alberta finally tied it up in the sixth end but B.C. won it with two in the seventh before running Alberta out of rocks in the eighth.

l The Alberta boys hockey team, coached by Red Deer’s Trevor Keeper, rebounded from their first loss of the Games to win the bronze medal 5-3 over Ontario.

Alberta got two goals from Torrin White of Medicine Hat, a goal and an assist from Jaedon Descheneau of Beaumont, and single markers from Cole Ully and Morgan Klimchuk both of Calgary.

l Team Alberta’s run in ringette came to an end in the gold medal game as they fell 8-7 to Ontario, settling instead for silver.

Jocelyn Stock of Calgary had two goals for Alberta while Shaundra Bruvall of Calgary had a goal and four assists. Carolina Romeo of Calgary, Jillian Basterash of St. Albert and Danielle Pronovost of Onoway had a goal and an assist for Alberta while Alex Saizew of Calgary tallied once. Lacombe forward added two assists.

Alberta also featured goalie Brea Beck of Red Deer and defenceman Lindsay Brown of Lacombe.

l Red Deer’s Garrett Northey finished 11th overall in dual moguls after winning his preliminary heat but losing out in the Round of 16 on Friday.
