Top-seeded Nadia Petrova took only 51 minutes to successfully open the defence of her $220,000 Bell Challenge title, routing Carly Gullickson of the United States 6-2, 6-0 on Tuesday. Third-seed Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., also advanced in the opening round with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Italy’s Corinna Dentoni in 44 minutes. Wozniak, a semifinalist last year, was seeded to meet Petrova in this year’s semis. Canadians eliminated Tuesday include Stephanie Dubois of Laval, Que., who lost 6-1, 6-3 to No. 4 Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic, and Oakville, Ont., native Heidi El Tabakh retired during a match against France’s Severine Bremond Beltrame with the score at 5-0.
