Red Deer Rebels second-year centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is the Western Hockey League player of the week. Nugent-Hopkins scored five goals and contributed seven assists for 12 points as the Rebels posted a 3-0-1-0 record in the seven-day period ending March 13.

Red Deer Rebels second-year centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is the Western Hockey League player of the week. Nugent-Hopkins scored five goals and contributed seven assists for 12 points as the Rebels posted a 3-0-1-0 record in the seven-day period ending March 13. He was also a plus-5 in the plus/minus category. Nugent-Hopkins scored the game-winning goal and picked up three assists in a 7-0 win at Prince George, picked up two helpers in a 3-2 overtime loss at Medicine Hat, erupted for three goals and two assists in Saturday’ 5-0 drubbing of visiting Swift Current and sniped a single goal in a 4-2 Red Deer win Sunday in Calgary. He has 15 points in his last five games and is tied for third among WHL scorers with 102 points (28g,74a). The player of the week award is the second for the highly-touted Nugent-Hopkins this season. He was earlier honoured for the week of Jan. 31 to Feb. 6.
