The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens are moving on to the ACAC Women’s Hockey Championship.

This came after a 3-1 win over the Lakeland Rustlers Saturday night at Lakeland College to sweep the best of three semi-final series.

Red Deer took a 2-0 lead in the first period after Tasha Barsby and Kaedence Mollin found the back of the net.

In the second period, the Rustlers scored first but the Queens bounced back on a powerplay goal potted by Jailyn Bablitz. That would be the closest the Rustlers would get as Red Deer sealed the deal defensively in the third period.

Goaltender Izzy Palumbo was fantastic once again in her second start in a row in the playoffs making 26 saves.

The ACAC Championship will begin on Friday, March 17 against NAIT Ooks and will be a best-of-five series. Since NAIT is the number one seed the series will begin in Edmonton.
