The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens’ soccer team are off to the gold medal game at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Championships after defeating the Lethbridge Kodiaks 2-1 Saturday morning in Raymond.

The Queens scored both of their goals in the first half by captain Alisha Coules and rookie sensation Sein Furuyama. The Kodiaks made a push in the second half and scored at the 62-minute mark but it wasn’t enough to take down Red Deer.

The match to determine this year’s ACAC Champion will take place on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Raymond. They will play the winner of the other semi-final matchup between NAIT and Concordia University.

To get to this point the Queens finished first in the south division, which earned them a bye to the semi-final on Saturday where they defeated Lethbridge.
