RDC Kings have tough start to second half of schedule

EDMONTON – The RDC Kings had a tough schedule to start the second half of the Alberta Colleges Men’s Hockey League regular season.

The Kings have been off for close to a month and then returned Friday against the defending champion NAIT Ooks.

The Kings stayed with the Ooks most of the way before falling 4-1.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period on goals by NAIT’s Nelson Gabourg and RDC’s Tyler Berkholtz.

Trace Elson put the Ooks up in the second period then added an insurance marker at 11:07 of the third period. Cameron Brezinski scored into an empty net.

Troy Trombley made 42 saves for the Kings while Brendan Jensen finished with 31 for NAIT.

The team took three minor penalties each and both scored once on the power play.

The teams meet again tonight at 7 p.m. at the Penhold Regional Multiplex.
