With Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference soccer season winding down, the RDC Queens put their best foot forward on the weekend.

First, the Queens rolled over the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings with a 3-0 shutout and Sunday, they finished the weekend perfect after a 2-1 victory over the Ambrose University Lions.

“Especially against Augustana, those girls left their heart on the field. They played so hard. That was great to see. We know what this team can do, it’s no surprise for the coaching staff,” said Queens head coach Esad Elkaz.

RDC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half at home Sunday, with goals by second-year midfielders Natalie Frenette and Ashley Thompson, only to run out of gas in the second and allow an Ambrose goal late in the half.

Second-year striker Alisha Coules was a star in both games, recording a hat trick against the Vikings and adding an assist in the win Sunday, earning her player of the game honours.

“There’s nothing not to like about her. She’s such a good person and a good player, she has everything a forward should have,” Elkaz said.

“Just her speed– her technique is unbelievable. She’s like a bee upfront, always there, just buzzing.”

Saturday, Alethea Riemer also earned the shutout in net for the Queens.

With the pair of weekend wins, the Queens moved to 4-4 on the ACAC season and are in a three-way tie for third place in the south division.

Next Sunday they travel to Olds to take on the Broncos, then following a makeup game with the SAIT Trojans in Calgary on Oct. 16, RDC finishes the regular season at home. Oct. 19 they take on the Lethbridge College Kodiaks and Oct. 20 RDC will square off against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers to conclude the regular season.
