Two Red Deer College volleyball players were selected as Athletes of the Week on Monday for their performances on the weekend.

From the Queens, third-year libero Lauren Marshall was recognized for her play against the Olds College Broncos. RDC swept the Broncos in straight sets (25-14,25-14 and 25-9) with Marshall putting up two assist and five digs.

In Olds on Saturday, the second game of the home-and-home, Marshall played a prominent role in another straight sets sweep of the Broncos (25-12,25-10 and 25-18).

The Redwood Meadows, Alta. native passed the ball effectively and took control of the backcourt throughout the weekend.

On the men’s side, Kings third-year outside hitter Regan Fathers was named Athlete of the Week for his standout play in Friday’s quick three set win over the Olds Broncos (25-11, 25-19 and 25-14).

The six-foot-six native of East Fremantle, Western Australia notched 18 kills on 28 attempts in the match and added five service aces along with a block. Fathers was also a big part of the Kings straight set sweep on Saturday also against the Broncos (25-17, 25-6, 25-18).
