RDP Kings and Queens basketball win in return from holiday break

Both return to the court on Saturday

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens basketball teams came back from Christmas break with a bang Friday night.

Both squads defeated the Briercrest College Clippers to start the second half of the season the right way.

The Queens were up first with a 78-65 victory on home court after a big offensive game from Sophie Melin. The fourth-year guard scored 24 points and reeled in six rebounds.

The Kings followed up with a 104-73 blowout including a 30-point third quarter. Cole Wicker and Eduardo Crespo each finished with 23 points. Meanwhile, Payton Baltzer added 20 points in the contest.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday with the Queens tipping off at 1 p.m. followed by the Kings at 3 p.m.
