RDP Kings and Queens cross-country team successful at third competition

The Red Deer Polytechnic cross-country running teams had a successful weekend at Concordia University in Edmonton after a number of strong performances in the Grand Prix No. 3.

The Kings won gold, while the Queens captured bronze at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference competition.

For the Kings, Lacombe’s Daniel Szucs finished fourth (27:49) among male competitors over eight kilometres. Meanwhile, Ethan Duret finished seventh (29:10), Ben House was eighth (29:57), and Axsivier Lawrence (31:03) was 11th.

The SAIT Trojans finished second and the Lethbridge College Kodiaks took home third in the men’s competition.

The Queens also had multiple standout performers including Jenica Swartz who took second place among female competitors over six kilometres (24:09). Meanwhile, Justine Larson (27:01) finished 12th, Myah Cota (27:08) crossed the finish line in 13th, and Melissa Ray (27:12) placed 15th.

The next Grand Prix is on Oct. 15 at St. Mary’s University before the ACAC Cross-Country Running Championships on Oct. 29 at Concordia University.
