RDP Kings and Queens soccer advance to ACAC playoffs

The RDP Kings and Queens each ended the Alberta Colleges Athletic Association soccer season on a high note over the weekend.

The Kings ended the pandemic shortened regular season with a 4-1-1 record, which included a 1-0 shutout over the Medicine Hat Rattlers Sunday.

Gabriel Fleury de Queiroz had the only Kings goal, in the 38th minute. Rookie Kings keeper Jared St. Thomas of Lacombe registered his fourth shutout of the season in the victory.

The Kings finished second in the ACAC Men’s Soccer South Division, earning a bye to the semi-finals.

The Queens finished the pandemic shortened regular season with a 4-2 record, including a 6-3 victory over the Medicine Hat Rattlers Sunday.

Estel Quinteros, a first-year Bachelor of Science Nursing student, was named the Queens Player of the Game. Maisa Rebello took top honours for the Rattlers.

Six Queens scored in the win, with Sofia Quinteros, Corbynn Fujimoto, Alisha Coules, Jenica Swartz, Lexi Kowalchuk and Grace Smith all registering goals.

With the victory, the Queens finished third in the ACAC South and will square off against the University of Alberta- Augustana Vikings in the division quarter-final.

In their only matchup this season, the Queens downed the Vikings 8-1.
