The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings basketball team kept their season alive on Thursday evening.

In the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) divisional playoffs the Kings defeated the Briercrest College Clippers 92-76 on the road.

First-year guard Deandre Rowe led the way offensively with 19 points shooting nine for 17 from the field and second-year forward José Barrozo Júnior recorded a double-double with 11 points and 18 rebounds.

Third-year guards Efe Iyamu added 16 points and Tyrique Walters notched 19 off the bench in the victory.

The Kings had a monster first half scoring 51 points to the Clippers’ 35 to give themselves a cushion. However, their best quarter of basketball had yet to come. The Kings put up 29 points in the fourth to secure the win.

The Kings played well defensively but had their hands full trying to contain forward Jude Shepherd-Hills who scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

With the win, the Kings will move on to the next round of the ACAC divisional playoffs to take on the St. Mary’s University Lightning on the road Saturday at 7 p.m.

This season the Kings are 0-2 against the Lightning losing to them on Jan. 26th and 27th 103-96 and 96-94.

If the Kings come out victorious they’ll advance to the ACAC Men’s Basketball Final Four Championship, which begins on Friday, March 1.
