The RDP Queens soccer team finished fourth at the ACAC Provincial Soccer Championships.

It wasn't exactly the result the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens soccer teams hoped for when they traveled to Grande Prairie over the weekend.

Both the Kings and the Queens lost in the bronze medal match and settled for a fourth-place finish at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Association Provincial Soccer Championship. The Kings were ranked first in the south division and the Queens were second.

The Kings fell 2-1 to the Keyano College Huskies in the semi-final Saturday and followed that up with a 2-1 loss to the SAIT Trojans in the bronze medal match Sunday. Grant Johnson scored the lone Kings goal in the loss to the Huskies and he also had the only tally for RDP in the 2-1 loss to SAIT.

The Queens knocked off the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves in the quarterfinals 3-1 on Friday. Paige Kalbfleisch scored the lone goal of the first half,  before Payton Erick made it 2-0 just 10 minutes into the second half. The Wolves cut the deficit in half in the 67th minute, before McKenna Leslie iced the game with a goal in the 70th minute.

In the semis, the Queens fell 1-0 to the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder. Queens keeper Jana Leskewich stopped 11 of 12 shots she faced, only allowing one shot past her in the 12th minute.

In the bronze medal match, the Queens lost 4-1 to the Keyano College Huskies. They got off to a slow start, allowing the Huskies to score just nine minutes and 30 seconds in. Keyano scored twice more before the half to open up a 3-0 lead. Leslie scored the lone Queens goal in the 84th minute.
