RDP Kings soccer knock off Olds College Broncos in ACAC play-in game

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings are off to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Association men’s soccer quarterfinals after winning a play-in match Tuesday.

Thanks to a strong second-half effort, the Kings knocked off the Olds College Broncos on home turf to advance. They will play on Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. in Raymond at Comet Stadium.

Second-year midfielder Jhojanner Amaris opened the scoring just 16 minutes into the game before the Broncos tied it shortly before halftime on a penalty kick from Valentin Kirchner.

On a penalty kick in the 73rd minute, second-year Red Deer product Ajdin Sarcevic struck with the game-winning tally. Striker Grant Johnson extended the RDP advantage in the 81st.

Sarcevic, with his effort in the midfield and the game-winning goal was Player of the Game for RDP. For the Broncos, defender Zayne Boughazale was named Player of the Game.
