The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens' soccer teams left Olds College with two wins over the weekend.
On Saturday the Queens won 3-1 and the Kings blew out the Broncos with a 7-2 victory at Olds College Broncos home opener.
In the Queen's match, captain Alisha Coules opened the scoring followed by a goal from Olivia Lundell to double their lead.
After the Queens put up their third goal scored by McKenna Leslie, Broncos Maria Luiza Couto Santos scored on a penalty kick late in the game to break the shutout. Queens goalkeeper Jana Leskewich made five saves on six shots.
With the victory, the Queens have improved to 4-1 in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) standings and won their fourth straight game.
The Queens were shut out by the SAIT Trojans in the season opener in Calgary to begin the 2024 campaign. Since then, they've beat the Broncos twice, the Medicine Hat College Rattlers, and the Lethbridge College Kodiaks.
Later that afternoon, Kings player of the game from last week Ajdin Sarcevic put the Kings up early on a pair of penalty kicks to take a 2-0 lead.
However, the Broncos answered back on a goal from Liam Parsons to cut the lead in half and later tied the game on a goal scored by Cristian Zorro.
Before halftime, Sarcevic converted on his third penalty kick of the afternoon to lead 3-2 at the half.
In the second half, two quick goals from Ibuku Oyawale and Jaxon Fernandes extended the Kings' lead by three. Njegos Bajovic scored the Kings sixth of the game and they added one more by Fernandes to secure a 7-2 victory.
The Kings' victory marks their second of the season so far and they have improved their record to 2-1-2 in the standings.
They began the year with a loss to the Trojans but tied the Broncos in the second game of the year. Red Deer then beat the Rattlers for their victory win of the season followed by another tie in Lethbridge against the Kodiaks.
