RDP Queens close out season on 12-game winning streak

Queens were undefeated after Christmas break

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens basketball team completed a dominant second half of the season winning their 12th straight game Friday night against the beat team in the North Division.

In their final battle before playoffs, the Queens continued to play at a high level beating the Concordia University Thunder 76-56 at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.

The Queens led the way in the first half but really pulled away in the second half putting up 46 points.

Guard Sandra Garcia-Bernal led the way with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists. Sophie Melin put up 18 points along with nine steals on the defensive end.

Amy Szymanek added a double-double performance with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Kings’ basketball team was also in action against the Thunder beating them 77-63 at home.

The men didn’t end the regular season on a long winning streak but had a strong second half winning nine of their last 11 games.

Cole Wicker and Eduardo Crespo led the way with 18 points but José Mauro Barrozo Júnior finished with a double-double notching 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Kings finished the regular season in fourth place with a 13-8 record heading into the postseason.
