RDP Queens Volleyball off to a perfect 8-0 season start

Queens swept SAIT Trojans in weekend action

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball team has maintained its perfect season, sweeping the SAIT Trojans twice in weekend action.

On Friday, the Queens swept the Trojans (25-15, 25-17 and 25-21). Outside hitter Tess Pearman recorded 11 kills for RDP. Sylvan Lake’s Anna Carlson was efficient on the right side, accumulating eight kills, six digs, two blocks and an assist.

On Saturday, the Queens extended their undefeated streak to eight, downing the Trojans in Calgary (25-16, 27-25 and 25-18). Queens setter Emma Letkeman contributed 21 assists, three kills, two service aces and one dig. Libero Kaylee Domoney, a Kinesiology General student from Red Deer, was solid defensively, totaling seven digs and a pair of assists.

The first-place Kings Volleyball team picked up a three set victory on Saturday at home over the SAIT Trojans (25-17, 25-22 and 25-20). First-year Brett Lower was outstanding, racking up 16 kills, seven digs, and an assist for the Kings.

On Saturday, the Kings (7-1) dropped a close five set decision to the Trojans (21-25, 22-25, 27-25, 25-23 and 11-15) in Calgary. Setter Brett Theise (32 assists) filled in for injured starter Maddux Greves. Australia’s Patrik Toze led the Kings’ offence with 18 kills.

In hockey action, the Kings (2-1-1-0) defeated the Portage College Voyageurs 4-2. Mathieu Lapointe, Kyle Salaway, Cruz Cote, and North Star Sports Kings Player of the Game Tucker Scantlebury scored for the Polytechnic. Kings goaltender Arik Weersink made 29 saves.
