The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens will compete for the bronze medal on Saturday at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Championship.
This came after the Queens were swept 3-0 in the semi-finals Friday night by the Lakeland College Rustlers at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
However, they didn’t go down without a fight losing a few of the sets by only three points. The three games on their home court were lost 22-25, 16-25, and 22-25.
Queens Jaiden Ferguson and Sydney Rix led the way with seven kills. Meanwhile, Francesca Sandini contributed 20 digs.
The Bronze medal game will go ahead at 3 p.m. mountain time on Saturday afternoon at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
On the men’s side, the Kings will compete for a gold medal at the ACAC Men’s Volleyball Championships after beating the host Keyano College Huskies 3-0.
Kings Noah Carlson finished with 10 kills and Evan Ockerman was right behind with seven of his own. Jonathan Graham added 11 digs to help Red Deer secure the win.
The gold medal game will take place at 8 p.m. on Saturday at Keyano College where the Kings will take on the Briercrest College Clippers.
