RDP Queens win gold at ACAC Indoor Track Championships

Kings just miss bronze to finish in fourth

After a successful weekend at the ACAC Championship, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens indoor track team are coming home with some hardware.

Throughout the two-day event in Edmonton the Queens had multiple first place finishes.

These included many by Jenica Swartz who achieved her third gold medal of the championship on the second day in the 600 metre beating out a SAIT Trojans runner by 73 milliseconds. On the men’s side in the 600m, Ethan Duret finished in fifth with a time of 1:27.39, which was milliseconds behind the third place runner.

Swartz continued her success in the 1500m when she finished in second place earning the silver medal at just over the five minute mark. In the same race, Myah Cota and Justine Larson finished in fifth and sixth place.

Meanwhile, Kings Daniel Szucs, and Jordan Coen completed the 1500m in sixth, seventh, and eighth place. The sixth and seventh place finishes earned points for the Kings but Coen’s run made it just outside with a time of 4:31.

The Queens relay team took top spot which clinched the victory for the women who finished with 81 points in the ACAC Championship, 17 points ahead of SAIT. The Kings on the other hand just missed out on a medal in the overall rankings but claimed fifth in the relay race.
