RDP volleyball teams on a roll

RDP Kings and Queens basketball teams split their games against Olds Broncos

Red Deer Polytechnic teams had a good weekend, especially on the volleyball courts.

The Kings Volleyball team swept the Olds College Broncos on the road (25-22, 25-20 and 25-20) on Friday. Red Deer Polytechnic outside hitter Patrik Toze led both teams with 13 kills.

On Saturday, the Kings (4-0) downed the visiting Broncos (1-3) in four sets (23-25, 25-20, 25-22 and 25-9). Red Deer’s Reece Lehman recorded 13 kills, three digs, two service aces and one stuff block for the Kings.

The Queens also did well. They defeated the Broncos in straight sets (25-15, 25-9 and 25-15) on Friday. Red Deer Polytechnic outside hitter Anna Carlson had a game high 10 kills.

In Saturday action, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (4-0) dropped the Olds College Broncos (2-2) in three sets (25-17, 25-10 and 25-16). Ponoka’s Tess Pearman powered the Queens’ offence with 15 kills.

On the basketball courts, the Queens and Kings split their games against Olds College.

On Friday, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Basketball team dropped a 67-57 home decision to the Olds College Broncos. First-year Lauren France accumulated 23 points over 29 minutes for the Queens.

On Saturday, the Queens (2-2) rallied in the fourth quarter and defeated the Broncos (1-3) by five (74-69). Amy Szymanek, a Bachelor of Education Middle School student, totaled 20 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Polytechnic.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Basketball team won 87-79 over the Olds College Broncos at home on Friday. Kings fifth-year guard Tyronn King led both teams with 36 points. He was successful on all 15 free-throws.

In Olds, the Broncos (1-3) downed the Kings (2-2) by an eight-point margin (86-78). Rocky Mountain House’s Kirklan Hall scored 10 points for the Polytechnic.

In hockey action, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens (1-1-0) picked up a 3-0 home victory over the Olds College Broncos (1-1-0). Queens first-year forward Brenna Reid scored her first regular season goal in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). Rookie goaltender Tanya Disotell-Dunsmore recorded the shutout in her first conference start. Prince George’s Braxtyn Shawara, a second-year forward, scored a pair of goals for RDP.

On Friday, the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team (1-1-0-0) was downed 4-1 by the NAIT Ooks (2-0-0-0) in Edmonton. Chance Longjohn scored the Kings’ lone goal.
