Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics named Kings and Queens volleyball players Autumn Roos and Zach Neufeld as the Athletes of the Week.

Roos, who’s in her third year, had a big game in the Queens’ final regular season match before playoffs. She contributed 17 points, which was tied for most on the team in a 3-1 win over the Olds College Broncos.

The Queens won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-18 before losing the third 21-25. They rebounded with a close 25-23 win in the fourth set.

The Ponoka product added 10 kills, four service aces, three digs, three blocks, and one assist.

With the regular season wrapped up, the Queens finished with a 13-6 record in the ACAC south division. In their opening match at the ACAC Championship on Thursday, Feb. 22 in Lethbridge, they’ll take on The King’s University Eagles.

Neufeld helped the Kings sweep the Olds College Broncos in three sets over the weekend 25-20, 25-17, and 25-16 in their final regular season game.

The Edmonton native led the way with six kills and added seven digs, one block, and an ace on the road. With his impressive performance, he was named the Kings’ player of the game.

The Kings finished the year with a 16-3 record, good enough for first place in the ACAC south division.

They’ll be the team to beat at the upcoming ACAC Championships in Olds. The Kings will begin their quest for gold against The King’s University Eagles on Thursday, Feb. 22.
