The Red Deer Rebels have bolstered their blueline after a trade with the Saskatoon Blades.
On Wednesday the Rebels announced they’ve acquired defenceman Marek Schneider from the Blades. In return Red Deer has sent a fourth-round pick at the 2023 Western Hockey League (WHL) Prospects Draft, and a conditional fourth-round selection at the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft.
Schneider, who is a native of Prince Albert, Sask. has eight points in 78 games with the Blades. This season in 14 games he has contributed a goal and an assist on the backend.
The 19-year-old was picked 30th overall in round two of the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft and is the younger brother of New York Rangers defenceman Braden Schneider. Standing six feet two inches tall and approximately 196 pounds the Rebels have added depth and size to a defensive core who have been playing with just six defenceman.
