Rebels defeat Tigers 4-2 to continue historic winning streak

The Rebels win another road game

The red-hot Red Deer Rebels continued on their historic winning streak to start the Western Hockey League season with a 4-2 win in Medicine Hat against the Tigers.

With the victory, the Rebels improve to 9-0 on the year. Just last game Red Deer broke a franchise record for the best start in Rebels history knocking off the 2000-01 team who started the year 7-0.

With another victory Friday night it seems the Rebels had no intention of slowing down against a Central Division rival.

In the first period, the Medicine Hat Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Tigers forward Cayden Lindstrom scored both just minutes apart approximately six and a half minutes in.

However, the Rebels didn’t leave the opening frame empty-handed when Jayden Grubbe fired in his third of the year on the powerplay off a feed from Ben King.

Less than five minutes into the second period King added his fifth goal of the campaign to tie the game and would be the only player to score in the frame.

Red Deer closed it out in the third period with goals from defenceman Matteo Fabrizi, his second of the season, and forward Talon Brigley with his first tally.

Goaltender Kyle Kelsey continued his solid rookie season in net with 19 saves in his eighth start of the year. On the other hand, Beckett Langkow started between the pipes for the Tigers and made 25 saves.

Next up for central Alberta’s team is a date at home on Saturday night against the Prince Albert Raiders at the Peavey Mart Centrium at 7 p.m.
