Red Deer Rebels netminder Kyle Kelsey’s stellar week in net earned him Western Hockey League (WHL) Goalie of the Week honours.

The 19-year-old rookie only started one game last week but earned his second straight shutout in a 2-0 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Friday, March 17.

The Maple Ridge, B.C. product made 34 saves in the outing, 20 of them coming in the third period.

Kelsey’s consecutive shutouts began the weekend before in a 9-0 win over the Calgary Hitmen and after the win against the Broncos, he now leads the WHL with four shutouts. He also reached the 20-win mark on the season.

Kelsey has shared the net with Chase Coward since fellow rookie Rhett Stoesser went down with a season-ending injury.

The Rebels will be back in action this weekend when they take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday on the road and again on Saturday in Red Deer.
