Rebels hold off Rockets

The Red Deer Rebels pulled one out of the fire Saturday night against the Kelowna Rockets as they held on for a 4-3 win.

KELOWNA — The Red Deer Rebels pulled one out of the fire Saturday night against the Kelowna Rockets as they held on for a 4-3 win.

After building a 4-1 lead late in the second period the Rockets came firing back with a Dallas Jackson goal with 1:42 to go in the middle frame. Brandon McMillan added another for the Rockets just 28 seconds into the final period, ending Darcy Kuemper’s night in the Red Deer net.

Kraymer Barnstable came in and shut the door the rest of the way for the Rebels, making 13 saves.

Mark Guggenberger stopped 21 of the 24 shots he faced.

Willie Coetzee scored twice and Colin Archer and Lane Scheidl also tallied for the Rebels. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins added three assists. Cody Chickie scored the Rockets’ opening goal.

The Rebels are in Chilliwack today at 4 p.m. to close out their five game road trip.
