Red Deer Rebels captain Jayden Grubbe will remain in Alberta after signing with the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.
The Calgary native signed a three-year entry-level NHL contract with Edmonton after they acquired his rights in a trade with the New York Rangers.
Grubbe was selected by the Rangers 65th overall in the third round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft but had yet to be signed by the club.
In exchange for the Grubbe, the Rangers acquired a fifth-round selection in the upcoming 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

In 194 games with the Rebels Grubbe has notched 39 goals and 95 assists for 134 points through four seasons. In the playoffs, he’s added 20 points in 22 postseason games.
Grubbe is eligible to return to the Rebels next season for his final major junior hockey season. However, the Oilers could decide to send him to play for their American Hockey League affiliate the Bakersfield Condors.
