Rebels Kyle Kelsey named WHL goaltender of the week

For his performance in Games 1 and 2

Red Deer Rebels goaltender Kyle Kelsey has been a brick wall in the Western Hockey League (WHL) playoffs.

Through seven games Kelsey and the Rebels have only lost one game so far and posted a 1.77 goals-against average, .936 save percentage, and one shutout. That leads all Eastern Conference goaltenders.

Furthermore, his play through the first two games of the second round against the Saskatoon Blades has earned him WHL Goaltender of the Week honours.

During Games 1 and 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, Kelsey posted 1.50 goals against average and a .925 save percentage.

He helped the Rebels claim a 2-0 series lead and stole both games in Saskatoon before returning home for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

In Game 1 the Maple Ridge, B.C. netminder made 23 saves in a 3-1 win at the SaskTel Centre and followed it up with a 14-save performance in Game 2 on Sunday.

Kelsey was originally drafted by the Moose Jaw Warriors in the fifth round of the 2019 WHL Draft but was traded to the Rebels prior to the season.

Through 44 games in the regular season and playoffs in his rookie season, he holds a career 27-11-3-3 record, a 2.49 goals-against average, a .912 save percentage, and five shutouts.
