After a successful slate last week, the Red Deer Rebels look to build off a three-game winning streak this weekend.
Next up for the Rebels is a matchup with the Prince George Cougars at 7 p.m. for their first and only matchup in the regular season.
In fact, this will be the Cougars’ first trip to the Peavey Mart Centrium in four years partially due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Jan. 26, 2019, the Rebels beat the Cougars 5-1 at home.
On Saturday the Brandon Wheat Kings will make their second trip of the season to the Centrium at 7 p.m. The Rebels have yet to beat the Wheat Kings this season losing on Nov. 11, 3-2 in the shootout in Brandon and eight days later losing 4-2 at the Centrium.
On Sunday central Alberta’s team, who have yet to lose to the Hitmen this season, will head to the Scotiabank Saddledome for a 4 p.m. tilt. The Central Division rivals have three head-to-head games remaining before the end of the regular season.
The Rebels are coming in hot winning their last three games against the Moose Jaw Warriors, Edmonton Oil Kings, and the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Against the Warriors, Kai Uchacz scored the shootout winner in a 4-3 victory. Goaltender Rhett Stoesser made 30 saves and stopped all three shooters in the shootout to earn the win.
On Friday the Rebels welcomed the Oil Kings to town for the last time this season. The home team notched three goals in the third period en route to a 4-1 win. The victory also solidified a sweep of their nine-game regular season series.
The next night in Lethbridge Hunter Mayo scored with 5.9 seconds left in overtime to give the Rebels a 2-1 win on the road.
Kalan Lind is currently running a three-game goal streak as he prepares for the CHL/NHL Top Prospects game next week in Vancouver, B.C. on Jan. 25.
This week forward Ben King was upgraded to day to day and is possible to return to the lineup this week. He’s missed 31 games after a lower-body injury put him out indefinitely during an Oct. 22 matchup with the Prince Albert Raiders.
Goaltender Kyle Kelsey was also upgraded to day-to-day with a lower-body injury and has been out since Dec. 17.
