Rebels to face defending champion Oil Kings in home opener

The Red Deer Rebels relesed their home schedule for the 2022-23 Western Hockey League season with the home opener slated for Sept. 24 against the defending league champion Edmonton Oil Kings.

All home games will begin at 7 p.m. except for a 2 p.m. matinee game against the Medicine Hat Tigers on Feb. 20. There will be 13 Saturday games, 12 Friday, two Tuesday, five Wednesday, and one Monday game.

Interconference play will also return for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic with teams from the B.C. Division returning to Red Deer. The first being against the Victoria Royals on Oct. 26 and Vancouver Giants on Oct. 28. On Jan. 20 the Prince George Cougars will be in Red Deer. The Kamloops Blazers will be in town on Feb. 17 and not far behind on Feb. 25 the Kelowna Rockets.

The Rebels will also take their first U.S. Division trip with a date to be unveiled once the away schedule is released.

Teams making multiple stops to the Peavey Mart Centrium next season include the Calgary Hitmen, Edmonton Oil Kings, Regina Pats, Lethbridge Hurricanes, Prince Albert Raiders, Brandon Wheat Kings, Medicine Hat Tigers, Saskatoon Blades, Moose Jaw Warriors, Swift Current Broncos, and the Winnipeg Ice.
