The Red Deer Rebels have swapped goalies with the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Shortly before the WHL Prospects Draft Thursday, Rebels president, owner, GM Brent Sutter traded goalies Connor Ungar and 2004-born Justen Maric, as well as a conditional fourth-round selection in the 2026 draft for Kyle Kelsey and a fourth-round pick in the 2022 draft.

Ungar, 20, was set to be one of five overage players for the Rebels next season, along with forwards Ben King, Jace Isley, Dallon Melin and defenceman Christoffer Sedoff.

Kelsey, 18, played 28 games with the Victoria Grizzlies of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League last season. The six-foot-1, 181-pound goalie posted a solid 2.83 goals against average, along with a 0.913 save percentage.

The Maple Ridge, B.C. native was signed by the Warriors in 2019, while playing in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) in 2019-20 with the Burnaby Winter Club. He was the top U16 goalie in the CSSHL in 2019-20, after he posted a 2.96 GAA, alongside a 0.921 SV%.

Ungar, a Calgary product had a strong campaign in his lone season in Red Deer. He was acquired from the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for Mason Ward last summer. This season, in 34 games he had a 21-9-1 record, along with a 2.43 GAA and 0.911 SV%.
