Red Deer Catalina swimmers bring back 49 medals from Edmonton

Red Deer Catalina swimmers had a successful trip to Edmonton last weekend.

The club sent 60 athletes, the largest group since 2010, to the Blue Bear Swim Meet and brought home 49 medals, set a number of new milestones and broke several individual and team records.

Ben Bahler, 8, had the biggest medal haul for the club with one gold and four bronze.

Elizabeth Moore broke an 18-year-old club record in the 200-metre backstroke, while also establishing new marks in the 200m individual medley and 100m backstroke. Along with Claire Halford, Brooklyn Weins and Lauren Bettenson, Moore helped also helped set a new record in the 200m IM relay.

A dozen swimmers picked up gold medals at the meet.

They included Ben Bahler (100m Free), Elizabeth Moore (200m IM, 100 and 200 Backstroke), Finley Waddle (100m freestyle and 100m Breastroke), Isaac Bahler (1500m freestyle), Logan Lopaschuk (200m IM), Owen Halford (100m and 200m Breastroke), Rebecca Fraser (100m freestyle) and in the Relay 4x50m IM, 15 and over Women (Claire Halford, Elizabeth Moore, Brooklyn Weins, Lauren Bettenson).

Silver medalists were: Addison Pruden (50m backstroke), Brooklyn Wiens (800m freestyle), Claire Halford (100 Backstroke), Cooper Waddle (100 Backstroke), Delaney Lehman (100m Breaststroke, 50m Free, 200m Free), Eliott Powell (100m Breaststroke, 200m Free), Elizabeth Moore (200m Breaststroke), Finley Waddle (100m butterfly), Jayden Vale (100m butterfly), Ocean Roos (1500m Free), River Roos (800m Free / 200m Backstroke), relay 4x50m IM 12 and under Men (Dalton Powell, Myles Grant, Kaillen Sumang, Gavin Piecowye) and relay 4x50M IM 13-14 Men (River Roos, Owen Halford, Isaac Bahler, Cooper Waddle).

Bronze medal winners were: Addison Pruden (100m Free), Ben Bahler 50m Free, 50m Backstroke, 50m Fly, 200m Free), Bennett Hopp (100m Free), Claire Halford (50m Free), Cooper Waddle (200m Fly / 200m Breaststroke), Eliott Powell 50m Breastroke), Delaney Lehman (200m Breaststroke), Kaillen Sumang (50m Free), Isaac Bahler 100m butterfly), Justin Valentine (200m backstroke, 100m butterfly), Myles Grant (100m Free), Ocean Roos (200m butterfly, 200m Free), Owen Halford (200m backstroke) Relay 4x50im 15 and over Men (Justin Valentine, Jaden Debruijin, Logan Lopaschuk Jayden Vale).
