RDC Royals fastball take three of four on weekend

EDMONTON — The RDC Royals posted a 3-1 record in Alberta Intercollegiate Women’s Fastball Association play during the weekend to run their record to 6-1.

The Royals opened play Saturday with an impressive 8-1 victory over the Mount Royal University Cougars as Jenn Potts tossed a two-hitter and fanned nine. Alyssa Cook had two hits and Eliza Lewis chipped in with a three-run triple.

The Royals then beat the MacEwan College Griffins 5-1 as Sarah Walz scattered five singles. Rolanda Rowland and Lewis had a double and a triple each.

However, the RDC crew ran into some tough pitching against the University of Alberta and managed just three hits in dropping an 8-1 decision.

On Sunday the Royals bounced back to take a 7-6 win over the University of Lethbridge.

Walz picked up the win in relief of Potts while Rowland and Potts had three hits each.

Queens edge Cougars

OLDS —The RDC Queens hockey team bounced back after losing 4-0 on Saturday by the Mount Royal University Cougars to up end their rivals 3-2 on Sunday. Treena Dodd, Karla Bourke and Jessica Abt scored the Queens three goals while Tannis Duffy and Kaitlyn Chapman split the game in the Queens’ net — both surrendering a goal.
