Logan Graf and Cole Bergheim put up a valiant effort in the final round of the Alberta U19 Championship.

The two local golfers, who represent the Red Deer Golf and Country Club, finished the week with a three-round total of 211, which ended up 10 strokes back of winner Hunter Thompson. The Calgary native fired a three-under 69 Thursday and won by eight strokes over Ben MacLean of St. Catharines.

Graf, from Sylvan Lake, fired an impressive two-under 70 in the final round of the 54-hole tournament. He was one of just four players under par Thursday at the rain-soaked Links at Spruce Grove course. Last year, Graf’s brother Carter won the championship.

Bergheim was in the hunt all week long. He finished at one-over-par 73 in the final round. He was one-under in round one, then shot 66 in the adjusted second round, which had a few holes change par because of rain.

Red Deer’s Alex Gerrard finished in a tie for 26th with a three-round total of 225.

The next major event on the Alberta Golf calendar is the 2020 Alberta Senior Ladies Championship from July 14-16. The 2020 Alberta Mens Amateur Championship from July 21-23.
