The Red Deer Midget AA Elks picked up a title in the South Central Alberta Hockey League North Division on the weekend.

They knocked off the top-ranked West Central Tigers 3-2 in the final to earn the title.

Red Deer finished the regular season with a 23-8-3 record and entered the playoff tournament as the second seed. After going 3-0 in round-robin play, they knocked off the Airdrie Lightning 2-1 in the semifinals to advance to the final.

In the final, they buried a pair of power play goals in the first period. Carter Bettenson, Jordan Siwak, and Connor Fenton scored for the Elks in the victory, while Zaiden Hansen stopped 29 shots to earn the victory.

The Elks will now play the South Division finalist, Medicine Hat Hounds, in a best-of-three league final, with the winner representing the league in provincials later this month. The opening game of the series is in Medicine Hat, with Game 2 Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Collicutt.
