While the season ended prematurely for the Red Deer Minor Hockey Commission, there were honours left to be handed down for players from the 2019-20 season.
The organization typically holds a year-end barbecue but with a limit on social gatherings, they released the names on Facebook of all the award recipients Wednesday.
Annually, RDMH hands out $1,000 scholarships to three male and three female graduating players. This years’ recipients included Aryn Chambers, Hailey Coutts, Julie Wagner, Jaxon Braun, Connor Fenton, Eric Melnyk.
Each year, the organization also hands out a Red Deer Minor Hockey Chiefs jersey to one player from each team, as nominated by their coach and selected by a league committee. The player needs to exemplify the attributes of a Chief, including attitude, passion, respect, compete, coachability, discipline, work ethic, leadership, cooperation and team play.
The winners were, Eric Melnyk (Midget AA Elks), Elizabeth Fonda (Sutter Fund Midget Elite), Jaxon Braun (Midget A Kings Energy), Caitlan Zachow (SutterFund Midget A), Kade Pruden (Midget B Arrow Plumbing), Justice Christensen (Bantam AAA Rebels), Ally Shaw (Sutter Fund Bantam Elite), Anna Boyer (Sutter Fund Bantam A), Everett Julien (Bantam A Red Deer Ramada), Ethan Korbyl (Bantam A Frontier), Hayden Brilz (Bantam B Sims Furniture), Easton Daneault (Peewee AA Parkland Transmission), Zander King (Peewee A Lions Club of Red Deer), Grady Pasman (Peewee A APLS), Hudson Walters (Peewee B Southside Dodge), Devon Miller (Atom A Phone Experts), Jag Gilbertson (Atom A Precede), Hailey Hollmin (Sutter Fund Atom Red), Cameron Christie (Sutter Fund Atom White), Hayden Naf (Atom B Westward Parts), Nate Lodge (Novice B Boston Pizza), Andy Bailey (Novice Little Caesars), Sawyer Carlson (Dynamite Cam Clark Ford), Paxton Ryan (Dynamite IG Wealth Mgmt) and Emmy Sopkow (Dynamite Ing & Mckee Insurance).
