All of Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics’ games for this weekend have been postponed or cancelled.
“This decision has been made by Red Deer Polytechnic for the health and safety of the student-athletes, coaches, support staff, spectators and campus community,” RDP said in a release Friday.
“With the highly transmissible Omicron variant, postponing and cancelling the games was deemed the best course of action. Red Deer Polytechnic apologizes for the late change in the schedule and for any inconvenience this may cause. Please note that this is a temporary measure at this time.
“Decisions about future competitions are under review by the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and Red Deer Polytechnic. Information about future games will be shared as decisions are made.”
The following games have been postponed:
- Queens Hockey @ NAIT (Friday)
- Queens Basketball vs. St. Mary’s University (Friday)
- Kings Basketball vs. St. Mary’s university (Friday)
- Kings and Queens Curling Winter Regional #1 (Saturday)
- Queens Hockey vs. NAIT (Saturday)
- Queens Basketball @ St. Mary’s University (Saturday)
- Kings Basketball @ St. Mary’s University (Saturday)
Meanwhile, the Kings Hockey’s non-conference game against the University of Alberta, which was scheduled for Friday, has been cancelled.
