Red Deer Polytechnic Kings volleyball earn silver at nationals

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings fell just short of another provincial volleyball title on the weekend.

In Fort McMurray at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Association men’s volleyball championship, the Kings lost to the Briercrest College Clippers in four sets in the gold medal match.

The Kings didn’t go down without a fight, losing the first set 31-29, the second set 32-30, before winning the third 25-18. They lost the fourth and deciding set 25-23.

Sylvan Lake’s Noah Carlson led the way for the Kings with 15 kills and five stuff blocks, while Red Deer’s Colby Nemeth had 12 Kills, six digs and one stuff block. Kings setter Maddux Greves, who is graduating this year, had 42 assists in the loss.

The Clippers got a monster performance from Karym Coleman, who had 33 kills, nine digs and two stuff blocks.

Breiercrest will represent the ACAC at nationals hosted by Humber College in Oakville, Ont., from March 8- 11.
