The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens posted their most impressive victory of an 11-game win streak Saturday in Alberta Colleges Athletic Association action.
The Queens routed the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves 105-40, scoring at least 21 points in all four quarters.
Sophie Melin led the way for the Queens with 25 points, eight assists and eight steals, as well as two rebounds. It was another banner night for guard Sandra Garcia- Bernal, who had another double-double with 22 points, 11 steals, five assists and four rebounds. Amy Szymanek pitched in 11 points and Janai Hubert had 10. Off the bench, Sadie Jeffries has 13 points and six steals. As a team, the Queens had 43 steals in the game.
RDP shot 48.4 per cent from the field, 28.6 per cent from three and 68.8 per cent from the foul line.
The Queens sit second in the ACAC South with a 14-6 record. They finish the regular season next Friday against the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder, in Edmonton.
The Kings came up short in a 74-58 loss to the Wolves and fell to 12-8 on the season. Eduardo Crespo led the Kings with 12 points, five rebounds, an assist and steal, while Cole Wicker chipped in 11, along with four rebounds. Off the bench Josh Jean added 10 points for the Kings.
The Kings shot just 25 per cent from the field in the loss, 29 per cent from three and 65 per cent from the free throw line.
Emannuel IIoka had a game-high 21 points for the Kings.
The Kings also round out the regular season next Friday in Edmonton against the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder.
