Red Deer Radisson Chiefs win U13 Tier 2 Provincial Championship

The Red Deer Radisson Chiefs are the top U13 Tier 2 hockey team in the province.

The Chiefs topped the Springbank Rockies 3-2 in overtime to with the U13 Tier 2 Provincial Championship this past weekend in Rocky Mountain House.

Mason Hunter scored the unassisted overtime winner for Red Deer. He also added a regulation goal in the first period – Jax Lee and Hayden Gibson assisted on that tally. Brooks Newfield also scored for the Chiefs, with Ben McMahon and Evan Saponja picking up the assists.

The event ran from Thursday to Sunday and featured teams from Red Deer, Rocky Mountain House, Slave Lake, Trails West, High Prairie, Sherwood Park, Provost and Springbank.

Hunter and Everett Olson tied for second in points throughout the tournament with nine in five games. Slave Lake’s Grayson Conrad finished with 13 goals and 18 points in four games.

Red Deer goaltenders Jace Lansing and Kellan Mandrusiak each recorded two wins, helping their team finish with a 4-1 record overall.
