Two Red Deer Rebels have officially been drafted into the National Hockey League.
Rebels captain Jayden Grubbe was selected by the New York Rangers in the third round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft Saturday. The six-foot-two, 200-pound centre was selected with the 65th overall pick.

Grubbe, a Calgary native, played just five games this past Western Hockey League season, after suffering a knee injury. He scored one goal and added two assists in his limited time this year. The year before, Grubbe’s rookie season, he scored six goals and 29 points in 57 games.
Rebels defenceman Kyle Masters was also drafted Saturday. He was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the fourth round of the draft – 118th overall.
The six-foot-one, 175-pound Edmonton native had 10 assists in 20 games this past season. The prior season, his rookie year in the WHL, he scored two goals and added an assist in 24 games.
