Blake Stevenson had two goals and an assist as the Red Deer Rebels dominated the Brandon Wheat Kings Saturday night.

The Rebels (6-3-1) defeated the Wheat Kings (4-5-0) 7-1 at the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer Saturday night. Red Deer is currently tied for the top spot in the Western Hockey League’s Central Division with the Edmonton Oil Kings – Edmonton has played one less game.

Ben King got the Rebels on the board 8:51 into the first period, with his fifth of the season. Arshdeep Bains and Stevenson assisted on the power play marker.

The Rebels had a big second period, putting the puck past Wheat Kings goaltender Nicholas Jones five times. Kalan Lind, Liam Keeler, Jayden Grubbe and Stevenson scored Red Deer’s second-period goals.

Ethan Rowland scored his third of the season for the Rebels 12:42 into the third period.

Brandon’s Nolan Ritchie broke Rebels goaltender Chase Coward’s shutout bid 13:50 into the third period. Coward finished with 21 saves on 22 shots and Jones allowed seven goals on 42 shots.

Stevenson added one more for Red Deer, with just over four minutes remaining in the game.

The game’s three stars were Keeler (1), Grubbe (2) and Lind (3).

Red Deer will host the Winnipeg Ice at the Peavey Mart Centrium Tuesday night.
